The second question is silly, because the clocke in my apartment rotates anticlockwise. It makes me think every time someone gives a direction to me with clockwise or anticlockwise.
The North-South thing should have something to do with polarisation and magnetic fields. It makes more sense that way it does, as otherwise if you think about it for a moment.
